How to set up donations on Twitch – the basics
Cryptocurrencies
A popular method of payment is cryptocurrencies, simply because using them to send funds is simple and cheap, compared to other transactions. - Open up your wallet app.
- Click the RECEIVE button.

Brave
The Brave browser simplifies the problems usually faced with cryptocurrency donations. Brave Rewards allows users to donate directly from wallet to wallet. Twitch Bits

Many people on Twitch stream as a hobby. If you're thinking about going full-time, though, you'll need to raise some cash. Setting up donations on Twitch is one way you can do it!
Along with Twitch's built-in subscription service, some streamers can accept donations using the platform's built-in currency (Bits), which is purchased with real money.
If you don't want Twitch taking a cut of your donations, or you're unable to accept subscriptions or Bits, you'll need to look at other methods. PayPal is one of the best ways, but there are other third-party donation services that make it easy for people to send you some cash.
Twitch Bits and Subscriptions: The Official Method
As we mentioned above, Twitch offers two methods for people to support streamers by sending them cash: subscriptions, and Bits.
Subscriptions allow people to "subscribe" to a channel as a paid member. This gives them additional benefits, such as subscription-only chat emotes. Whenever someone subscribes, you'll be notified so you can recognize and/or thank that person for their support.
People can also donate at random with Twitch Bits. They buy this built-in currency with real money, and can then send it to a streamer by using the cheer command in that person's Twitch chat room.
This doesn't really buy the sender any benefits, but you can recognize donations in-stream. You'll also see an extra emphasis on any chat messages that contain the cheer command, making it a good way to interact with your audience.
You have to be a Twitch Affiliate or Partner to accept these, however. Also, even if you can accept bits or subscriptions, Twitch takes a percentage to help support the service.
Bits and subscriptions are accepted and enabled automatically on your channel as soon as you reach Twitch Affiliate status and set up your payment settings. However, you can tweak the donation settings in your Twitch channel dashboard.
Using Third-Party Donation Services
Twitch streamers who don't have Affiliate or Partner status are unable to accept payments or financial support directly through Twitch.
However, you can use third-parties to bring donations to your channel. Services like Streamlabs and Muxy allow you to expand your channel with additional payment options outside of Twitch.
If you use Streamlabs, you can add a donation option from the Streamlabs dashboard. To get started, click "Settings" in the menu on the left.
Go to Donation Settings > Methods to add your own payment accounts, including PayPal, Skrill, or a credit card.
Select your preferred method for payment, and then follow the onscreen instructions.

You can change the currency, minimum donation amount, and other settings for Streamlabs under Donation Settings > Settings.

Once you have a payment method (or multiple methods) active on your Streamlabs account, other people on Twitch can donate to you directly via your Streamlabs tip page. The link appears prominently under "Donations Settings."

Anyone who views your stream can donate to you directly via that page. You'll need to advertise the link during your stream, though, to let people know how they can donate.
Adding a PayPal Donation Link
You can also drop a simple PayPal donation button or PayPal.me link in your channel description. This allows people on Twitch with a PayPal account to send donations directly to your account.
To change your channel description, head to the Twitch website, and then click your channel icon at the top right. Select "Channel" from the drop-down menu to access your Twitch channel page.
Click "About," and then toggle-On the "Edit Panels" option.
Click the large add button that appears below it, and then select the "Add a Text or Image Panel" option. Give the panel a name and make sure you link your PayPal donation information here.
Once you're done, click "Submit."
A PayPal link or button will be added to your Twitch profile. Anyone who wants to donate can now click the link or button and send you money directly.
Keep in mind that PayPal will charge a fee for any donations you receive, as well as conversion fees for donations made in other currencies.

How to Accept Bits on Twitch
Bits are the primary medium for viewers to donate to Twitch streamers they like and enjoy. Make a funny joke or pull off a one-in-a-million snipe and you might find yourself on the receiving end of an avalanche of Bits. There's just one problem: You need to be a Twitch affiliate to receive Bits.
While anyone can send Bits, only those in the Twitch Affiliate program are allowed to receive them—and qualifying isn't easy. In order to qualify for the program, you need to have at least 500 minutes of broadcasting in the last 30 days. That's a bit over 8.3 hours.
You also must have seven unique broadcasts over 30 days, with an average of at least three concurrent viewers during that time. Finally, you must have a total of 50 or more followers.
Qualifying for the Twitch Affiliate program requires a significant time investment. Once you qualify, Twitch will email you and send an invitation via the notification tab on Twitch.tv.
You'll earn one cent per Bit used to cheer you on. This means that for every 100 Bits donated to your channel, you will earn $1.
How to Set Up Donations Through Third Parties
If the idea of becoming a Twitch Affiliate sounds like too much work, you can use a service like Streamlabs to set up donations on Twitch through platforms like PayPal, Skrill, and Unitpay. Setting up these services is as simple as linking your account so the donations have a place to go.
If you verify your Streamlabs account, you can accept donations directly from credit cards. However, verification has vague requirements including:
- A proven track record of legitimate use
- A consistent pattern of concurrent viewers and followers
What these requirements mean is not clear, but it does mean you won't get verified after just one or two nights of streaming. You will need to put in effort before you qualify, but this isn't an issue if you have your sights set on becoming a Twitch Affiliate.
PayPal isn't the only option, however. Streamlabs has numerous integrations including Patreon, Extra Life, Tiltify, TippeeStream, and more. These services make it easy to accept donations without forcing your viewers to purchase Bits from Twitch's system in order to donate.
Streamlabs is a tool that serves as an overlay for your Twitch stream, but you can also use it to synchronize settings across other streaming platforms, including YouTube, Mixer, and more. You can customize your tip page within Streamlabs to further entice viewers to donate, but it isn't a requirement—and you don't have to have a Premium account to receive tips.
Set Up Donations With a PayPal Link
There is a third option that many streamers overlook, and that is simply adding a link to donate. People support creators they enjoy. If you give your viewers a way to support you, they're likely to do so even if it means following a link away from Twitch.
You can't add a link directly to your Twitch bio. However, you can add a panel to your Twitch channel from within your Twitch Channel settings that serves the same purpose.
This panel can include an image that you can link to another site (in this case, your PayPal donation link.) You can also include text to invite viewers to donate.
To set up donations on Twitch this way, all you need to know is your PayPal.Me address. This address will look something like paypal.me/username. When someone follows the link, it will take them to a page where they can donate however much they want.
The more customized your donation page is, the more likely someone will send a few dollars your way. Make sure to set the profile image with a picture of yourself or a logo of your Twitch stream. Rather than just a link, you should create a donation button that invites viewers to click.
Once you have several donation options set up on Twitch, all you have to do is focus on entertaining your viewers. Play games well (or don't), but make sure anyone that spends time watching you enjoys themselves. Step 1: Create an account on PeachPay.
Creating a PeachPay account takes 1 minute and requires only an email address.
Go to PeachPay and click signup on the top right.
Fill in the form with your email address and a password.
For a business name, you can use your own name if it is a personal account.

And you can upload a photo or logo by tapping the icon at the top of the page.
The Pay Me page is generated and you are good to insert this Pay Me link into your twitch profile.
Step 6: Add Social Link Open a new tab and sign in with your Twitch account. Then from the drop-down menu select the channel.
Scroll to Add Social Link and provide your Pay Me Page URL (For example; https://www.peachpay.me/yourcustomlabel). You will need to provide some text for the link.

If the streamer hasn't set up a donation tab or if you feel uncomfortable donating through a third-party site, you can also give using Twitch Bits. Twitch Bits are the in-built currency set up by Twitch. As a viewer, you can purchase them directly from the company for a small markup on their value. Each Twitch Bit is worth 1 US Penny.

Before you can set up text-to-speech donations on Twitch, you'll need to set up an Alert Box using Streamlabs OBS. Alert Boxes can be found in Streamlabs OBS under "Themes" in the "Widget Themes" section.
After you've picked out an Alert Box theme you like and added it to your stream's channel, you can set up text-to-speech donations.
1. Go to streamlabs.com and log into your Twitch account.
2. Once you're logged in, click on "Alert Box" in the left side menu.

Today, streamers have access to a myriad of ways to make money while playing games. One of the most profound is that of using donations in Twitch. Viewers can "tip" you whether they like the game play, they think your good or love the entertainment value. So, how do you set it up?
Perhaps the easiest method for setting up donations in Twitch is using Streamlabs in conjunction with PayPal.

Why PayPal?
I've used PayPal on a regular basis since 2003. It's been a stable system, and I have yet to experience issues. In fact, I used it to spearhead my online sales back when I owned and operated my computer business.
And because I have a PayPal debit card, funds are immediately available to me as soon as someone sends money. I also use it for client payments as I am a freelance writer.
Why Streamlabs?
Streamlabs is simply an easy system to use and will track donations sent to your channel. Most of the tools are automated and setting up donations in Twitch is merely a few minutes of your time.
In reality, Streamlabs has far more going for it. But for now, we're just going to focus on the donations area.
Why Not Just Use Bits?
In Twitch, you can use bits to tip your favorite streamer. However, these are subject to fees while costing you more money to purchase. For instance, if you wanted 100 bits, it'll run you around $1.40. Then, the streamer is taxed by Twitch for using the service.
In the long run, less money is actually exchanging hands during the entire transaction. Not to mention it could literally take months before the Twitch personality actually sees that money as it has to hit the payable threshold.
With a donation link, broadcasters get money almost immediately from viewers.
Setting Up Streamlabs Donations
The first thing you'll need to do is connect your PayPal account to Streamlabs. This is so the Streamlabs donation page works and the system can track your income.
From the Streamlabs dashboard, click the "Donation Settings" link on the left.
Streamlabs supports a few different types of payment processing options. You can even use cryptocurrency tips by connecting your Coinbase account. For this tutorial, though, we're just going to set up our PayPal account.
Click the option for PayPal.
Input your PayPal email and click, "Submit."
The PayPal email address is then added to your profile.
Copy the URL for your tip page. This is the address you'll need to put into Twitch. You can also use it on social media, websites, emails or anywhere else you use links.

Add the Link for Donations in Twitch
Next, you will need to go to your Twitch channel. Note, this is not your Twitch Dashboard. You need to edit the panels on the front end of the channel itself.
Click the "Edit Panels" tool on the left. It's right below your channel's video feed.
Click the big "+" field in your channel. This lets you add a new panel for visitors to see.
Click the option to add a text or image panel.
Now, there are two ways you can add donations in Twitch. You can use a basic link or you can design and upload your own button image.
Using Button Images
To use a button on your Twitch channel, you need an image that is 320 pixels wide. That's because this is the size Twitch will automatically use for the graphic. If it's bigger or smaller, the system will automatically scale the image.
Personally, I use Photoshop to fine-tune my own buttons so they are the correct dimensions.
Add your image and paste the donation URL from Streamlabs.
Click "Submit" to save your donation button.
Congratz! You now have a button for your donations in Twitch.
Using a Text Link for Donations in Twitch
Buttons are nice, but what if you want a text link instead? Twitch uses its own markdown language. Which means you cannot use HTML when adding links to text. However, adding a link in Twitch isn't all that difficult.
Paste this coding into the Description area of the panel:
There are two elements of this markdown code you need to change:
- The text of what the link says. In this example, I use "send me money." You can use any text you want.
- The URL of your Streamlabs donation page. This is the URL in the parenthesis. Replace my example with your own URL.
The thing to note here is you need the brackets for the text and the parenthesis for the URL. Without these, the link will not work. And make sure there are no spaces in between the brackets and parenthesis.
Click the "Submit" button to save your text.
And now you have a text link for donations in Twitch. This will open a new browser window and give visitors a chance to send a donation.
Turn Off the Edit Panels Function in Twitch
When you're done, scroll back up and turn off the Edit Panels function.
Can't you just use a PayPal "Donation" button instead?
If you've ever played around in a PayPal account, you'll find the system is capable of creating donation buttons while giving you the code to copy and paste.
However, you won't be able to use these PayPal donation buttons as Twitch doesn't allow HTML coding. Although these kinds of buttons work great for websites, you won't be able to use them in your live stream.
Can you use the Streamlabs URL in the chat window?
Absolutely. That is, as long as your channel allows URLs. Some chat settings prevent links from being displayed. It's a way to reduce the impact of spam.
Personally, I use Nightbot to help moderate my channel. And I am able to set a timer that allows Nightbot to share my donation URL every 45 minutes.
Make Money with Your Channel
One of the reasons I like using donations in Twitch is because anyone can make money in this fashion. You don't have to worry about becoming an affiliate to accept bits or subscribers.
Theoretically, you could start making money inside the first five minutes of live streaming.
Don't get me wrong, being an affiliate will open a ton of doors for making money from your channel. However, donations in Twitch have no requirements other than having a PayPal account.[template
